I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life. 1 John 5:13

Story…In Luke 23 Jesus is crucified between two criminals. In this story we see the two different responses a person may have to Jesus- rejection or acceptance. One person hurled insults and mockeries at Jesus, while the other in faith asked Jesus to “remember me” when Jesus entered his kingdom. “Today you will be with me in Paradise.” Jesus wanted this thief on the cross to know that he was saved and had eternal life. He wants you to know with assurance that you belong to him and that you have eternal life because of the gospel.

Head… Have you believed the gospel for salvation?

John 1:12 But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,

1 Corinthians and 15:3 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures,

Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

John 10:28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.

Romans 10:9 Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Heart… Have you experienced God’s grace and presence in your life?

Romans 8:16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,

Romans 5:12 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

John 3:3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

Hands… Is there enough evidence or fruit in your life to point to conversion?

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.

Ephesians 5:8-11 For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them.

John 15:5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.

Colossians 1:10 So as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.

John 3:36 Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

Prayer Lord, thank you for the gift of eternal life. Help us to clearly see the beauty of the gospel where you have finished the work of salvation, saved us from the wrath to come, and made the way for us to be with the Father forever. Help us to live in confidence, knowing that we are the children of God as we believe the truth of the gospel, live with the spirit of God in us and see the results of Christ in our life.
